Sunflower on the Hutch

Hi Friends,

It's time to start bringing out the Sunflowers into my late-summer décor, I like to enjoy the last few weeks of summer.  We have a few more weeks of hot temperature in our forecast, and then in a snap!, we get a freeze and then it's fall.

I'm just getting started with a bouquet in a thrifted cream color vase.  I'm going to fill the wicker basket with more sunflowers I think, close to the black lantern I place a bundle of sunflowers.  I'm not sure what next,  have gather my blue bottles, greenery, maybe add a few of my rooster collections, I was also thinking adding in a few of my green bottles what do you think?

May God bless you and your family.

Sunflowers Late/Summer-Changing Décor

Hi Friends,

I have taken down the Fourth of July décor and starting to put up late summer décor, sunflowers crows etc.  I like summer so much and we have such a short summer that I feel it's okay to stretch summer décor into September.

Patriotic Décor on Hutch

 Hi Friends,

Today I'm adding Red, White and Blue to the top of my hutch.

I have incorporated this weathered willow basket I found at the thrift store added some red white, and blue flowers.

Also I place one of my vintage chalk board to announce it's 4th of July.

A few flag placed here and there adds color and the idea that I'm proud to live in America.

I also, incorporated from my vintage candlestick collection a pair of pink depression glass candle sticks and a pair of silver plate candle sticks and added red, white, & blue candles.

Last Christmas I made the white star using chippy white wood scraps I thought it would give a nice touch of rustic

A thrifted wooden country rooster that is always perched on the hutch

To my patriotic décor, I have added a few new items from Dollar Tree the blue jar I filled with red, blue, and silver bead necklaces, a new sign, and some patriotic color floral

Thank you for stopping by to see how I decorated the top of my hutch for the month of July.

May God bless you and your family,

My Patriotic Country-Style Mantel

Hello Friends,

July is here, with all the celebration hot summer afternoons and fireworks!

I have decorated my mantel with
a framed Declaration of Independence that my husbands son gave us last Christmas.

I've added American Flags, pip berries picks to a few of my vintage bottles.  I also incorporated my vintage brass candle stick with red, white, and blue candles.

I added a few of my vintage blue  and clear bottles a grapevine star wreath and a red covered book for height.
The Uncle Sam figurine was a thrift find as were most of the items displayed on my mantel.

New items I added to my patriotic décor this year is this Happy 4th of July banner, silver mercury glass looking pint jars and the foam flag star, that I purchased from Dollar Tree.

Fourth of July in the Rockies is the best time the weather is sunny and warm.

God Bless America,

March 2017 is Here!

Time to get the March Decor Up

Green, green, green, the temperature is warming up but we still have snow, so it is very hard to think spring, but I have pulled out the Saint Patrick's Day decorate you can see I have few items.

I was doing some deep spring cleaning and founds some decoration that I made quiet a few years ago,  felt shamrocks pip berry eucalyptus stems green candle and a cardboard shamrock.  I'll see if I can incorporate some of the items into this year march decor.

I'm not real happy with the mantel, it looks so plain.

I made this shamrock garland this year and added prints from old post cards with clothespins.  I searched the house for anything green, brass, and white to use as decor pieces on the mantel.

As you can see I incorporated the felt shamrocks on a stick in the white vase which is a new thrift find.  This banner is new with the green medallions, but can't get it to hang right.

Here are a few more of the felt shamrocks on a stick, This needs something

Here is one of the Styrofoam balls I mod podge with green tissues paper and I stuck in the King Edward cigar box and added a couple of old post cards.

I guess I'm not feel'in it this year.

I use some more felt shamrock on a stick some old post cards and a cardboard shamrock with one of the medallion I made in a earlier tutorial.

This is it for 2017.
Have a wonderful day!

Show and Tell - February Themed Banners

I saw this banner on Pinterest from Little Maisie on www.esty.com and thought it would fit into my rustic farmhouse decor, so here is my version.

Burlap & Lace Heart Banner Valentine's Day Red White Gingham by LittleMaisie on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/listing/220103201/burlap-lace-heart-banner-valentines-day:

I had made for the mantel in the den, but I measured wrong and the banner was to long to fit the mantel, so I hung it in my living room.  I think it looks great in the living room at the front window.

I had some sack cloth I bought on sale at my local Walmart, and of course you know I always have felt square and twine.  I choose to make my hearts 5" x 41/2, sorry I just kind of eye ball when I cut the template for the sack cloth/ red felt hearts.

I got the stencils out and traced the letters for, "Happy Valentine".  I used red and white acrylics paints to fill in the stencil letters.  Then I hot glued twine that I have on hand to transform the hearts into a banner.

This project was super easy and I was able to finish this banner in about four hours.

I found another Valentine garland project that looked fairly easy on Pinterest of course, saved from
www.redtedart.com, go check this site out she has a lot of wonderful paper craft ideas.

valentines day decorations - hugs and kisses garlands!:

This project was a little more time consuming the cutting and taping took some time, but I really liked how it turned out.  I hung this garland  in my living room with my green-fir garland.

Gives this project a try, for your Valentine Day decor.

Have a wonderful Day

Heart Banner Tutorial

When I have some time on the weekend I love to work on some easy crafts for my rustic farmhouse look.  The last two Saturdays I've been working on a small heart banner that I saw on Pinterest saved from www.catchmyparty.com.  I always have felt squares around and I have seen crafters using burlap ribbon.

So here was my project..

I had the red, white, and pink felt squares and started cutting three sizes of hearts to layer all I saw was a lot of white.

I had bought a couple of rolls of burlap ribbon from the dollar tree.  I really didn't have a plan for the burlap when I bought it.   I tried to incorporate the burlap and thought the burlap gave the hearts a rustic feel.  Once I had all the heart cut and glued.  I decided to brush them with watered down Elmer's Glue.

What a mistake, it took several day for the glue to dry and the burlap separated and started to curl up.
I laid out the hearts on plastic wrap and put books on them for a couple of days to flatten out the hearts

that did the trick then I just used my glue gun and attached jute to the back to make the banner.

This is the finished project, I think it turned out okay and it gives a little bit of color to the front of my fireplace and mantel.

I hope this gives you some inspiration to add some color to your decor for February.

Have a Wonderful Day!

Valentine's Day Card Making

Hi Friends,

This project is always one of my favorite craft to do in February.

When my girls were elementary school age, they loved getting out the construction paper, glitter, dollies, and stickers to make valentines for their classmates.

This year I thought it would be fun for the grand kids to make their own valentine cards for school.

For the past few weekends, I have gotten out the construction paper, glitter glue, stickers and scissor, for the grand kids to make their valentines this year for their classmates.

This is their final product minus the suckers that they will add
.  The oldest grandson wrote the poem, "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Honey is Sweet and so are you," with colored gel pens.
The second oldest grandson wanted to use gel pens and stickers to decorate his cards.
And the youngest grandson which is 5, I cut out hearts, let him write his name and put sticker on them.

I had thought ahead and bought 2 bags of heart shape suckers from the dollar tree, but you guessed it I
didn't have enough so I went through the candy stash and found some smarties to put in the middle of the heart shape card to make it look like a butterfly.  60 cards in all were sent to school with the grandson on Valentine's Day morning.

Thank you for stopping by,

Our Christmas morning breakfast consisted of biscuits and gravy, one of our favorite breakfasts, hoping it would keep the tummies full until Christmas dinner.

My 2016 Christmas Tour, so to speak

This year my decor changed a bit, I was striving for old country, woodland feeling, with more green garland and checks, but also leave the glitter and sparkle that my husband like.  So here is a peek, I also moved a few vignettes around so that little finger can not touch.

Here is a little vignette of the Islands of Miss-Fit Toys.  The lighted tree I purchased from a Home Decor Party quite some time ago like 20 years.  Does any one remember Home Decor home parties? The ornaments in this vignette, I have picked up at yard sales or thrift store.
This year I moved the white feathered tree to the living room on the top of the entertainment center.  I believe I purchased the feathered tree at an auction, several  years ago. The wooden ornaments I started collecting when I moved out on my own.

Also on the top of the entertainment center is the snowy village. The village pieces came unpainted from the craft  department of Wal-Mart, I believe at least ten years ago.  I put a five piece battery operated train in front of the snowy village, that I bought at Ace Hardware, many years ago.  The string of blue light came from The Dollar Tree this year, I think the lights were a nice touch.

The nativity scene I thrift-ed a few years ago, I put on a high shelve of the living room entertainment center, high enough to stay out of the way of little fingers.

Here are the Grand Kids rearranging the ornament this was the biggest challenge this year.  What are you going to do?  It was great to have them during Christmas break.

Have a Wonderful.
