Vintage Wooden Ornaments Collection - Setting up the White Tree

 Hi Friends,

Today, I felt the need to set up the white tree I thrifted back in the early 80's, that I normally decorate with my tiny vintage wooden ornaments.

Remember on Fridays haul, I found so many wooden ornaments I just had to get the tree set-up.

*****
all the wooden ornaments I thrifted on Friday look great in this vignette.

These added wooden ornament are quite a bit larger that (I thrifted in a grab bag on Friday) than the ornaments I have collected over the years. I think they look great at the base of the white tree though.

Next year, I may add the larger ornament to my Island of 'Misfit Toy Vignette I display every year.

*****

A few 'Singing Angels' are also from a thrifted grab bag last Friday.

I hope I gave you some inspiration and a few ideas of how to use wooden ornaments you find thrifting at a reasonable price.
Grab bags are a great way to purchase small Christmas items to add to your vintage Christmas décor.

Hey! I'm on a roll so please check back for a few more Christmas vignettes.

Vintage Christmas Village- a Walk Through Memory Lane

Hi Friends,

Walking down memory lane of my Christmas Village collection display of years gone by.

Thank you so much for stopping by 'My Little Colorado Cottage'  this week.

I started collecting Ceramic Christmas Houses from Wal-Mart back in 2009.

They came white and wrapped in cellophane ready to paint.

I started with a Hot Rod Parts shop, High School, Pet Shop, and a Tire/Gas Station for a Christmas village

****

2013

This year I added a ceramic church to the Christmas village on a shelf above the entry closet

*****

2016

This year I was into sparkly tinsel garland on top of the hutch and arranged the houses into a small cozy town with a train traveling through.

*****

2020
I decided to split up the house and added more trees.

Here on the Mantel, I was going for a woodsy Christmas with trees and buffalo checked, red berries or deep in the woods Christmas feel

On another shelf I added a few hand carved trucks

2021

I moved my Christmas village to a longer shelf and added cotton fabric to look like a snowy Christmas Village.

added a new piece - Grocery Store
*****

2022

This year my thought is bringing in diy vintage looking Putz Christmas houses using paper or light weight cardboard (like cereal boxes)

I've found a few free blueprints to add some Putz houses

Happy Thanksgiving - November Vignettes in the Den

Hi Friends,

I am so thankful you stopped by "My Little Colorado Cottage" and take a moment out of your day to see what I have been up to.

*****

Today, I'm just showing you a few vignettes I've been working on in the den for the end of November, using some of my New and old vintage seasonal finds.

*****

I've had this great pumpkin jar for a few years.  This season I decided to fill the glass pumpkin with small faux pumpkins

and place the pumpkin jar on a vintage pewter platter I thrifted, then garnished the platter with small pine cones and pip berry stems from a wreath I also thrifted.

I liked how the colors of berries and pumpkins work with the table scarf and brass candle sticks.

*****

over on my tobacco box collection shelves I intermingled a few seasonal thrifted treasures

vintage Eureka-Die-Cut turkey, I believe from the 70's?

*****

If you have read early posts I have brought in dried florals this year, from my yard-(yarrow, zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers, and poppy pods).

Also, used dried beans, peas, and popcorn kernels to anchor floral stems and add color in this dark corner of the den.

*****

A new find is this clear vintage bottle in the shape of a violin and I paired it with a art deco green ceramic harvest creamer

*****
I brought last years thrifted turkey head, I believe belongs to a Wild Turkey decanter- (that I'm on the hunt for)

I also pulled out a cute DIY Buffalo check pumpkin I made a couple of years ago. I still love Buffalo check décor.

*****

Another little area of the den, is on top a corner book case unit with seasonal décor.

I have incorporated more dried florals and feathers into this little vintage.

*****
a vintage seed box adorns the corner shelf unit, I brought in a 'Hull' leaf shape planter, along with a vintage oil can, dried gourds, and a few small terra-cotta pots with pip berries.

*****
Over in another area of my den I have a vintage trunk that I add seasonal décor

This season, I have moved two of my vintage picnic basket to the top of the trunk and added a vintage Eureka-Turkey Die-Cut

the home-made cloth hen always resided here,
I sat her in the the Star Tobacco box,
added small faux pumpkins and gourds to the nesting area.

*****
Another area I like to decorate with seasonal items is in this corner
I incorporated another 1970's seasonal Die-Cut along with a vintage oil lamp I have had in my collections for many, many years.

Here on this shelf I included the Art Deco 60's yellow and gold vase with all of the dried floral I used this year in my Autumn décor.

*****

Over on the red crackle shelves in the Den I incorporated a few seasonal details, I included a dried bean turkey DIY, that my Granddaughter made in school.

*****

On the ledge below the red shelves
I found another vintage Thanksgiving Die-Cut from the 70's I believe, of children dressed as Pilgrims and a smiley turkey,

a pottery piece my daughter made many years ago in Middle-School and couple of new Pepsi bottles I thrifted this summer

Pepsi crate with a few collected nick-knacks

I'm a little late to the game, (life happens). I do hope I gave you a few ideas how I add my vintage treasures into my home for the seasons.

Thank you so much for stopping by 'My Little Colorado Cottage', I sure hope you have a fantastic weekend.
May God Bless You and Your Family.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you,
Vicki

Friday Vintage Thrifting - Christmas Treasures

 Hi Friends,

I'm sharing a few Christmas items I have found in the past couple of weeks while thrifting, at my local community thrift and vintage thrift stores

I did find a couple of vintage treasures....

  • a pair of tapered green candles with a candy cane made by Avon I believe from 1980 - for $1.50
  • a pair of small winking Santa plastic mugs for $1.00 each I'll be adding to my Santa mug collection
  • a Russ Bernie Co - wooden rocking horse ornament

The Making our own Fun book was $1.00 not vintage but has great vintage looking picture and stories of  "Day's Gone By"

The Beta Sigma Phi Holiday Cookbook caught my eye with the Christmas Fruitcake recipes.
I'm sure I'll find a few more recipes that my Grandmother used for the Holidays

I have a couple of brass horns in my Christmas décor, but this horn is a little different more like a bugle for $4.00.

When out thrifting, small wreaths of any kind are on my list to pick-up and especially when the wreath have do-dads and this little wreath for $1.50 had berries, miniature wooden spools, pine cones that can be used for other projects.

I follow Becky at My Little Vintage Home, You-tube channel and she was crafting vintage styled ornaments.
When I saw the $1.00 bag of red satin thread spun ornaments, I thought I could  embellish these with beads and sequins. maybe?

I found another wreath with more pine cones and berries for $3.00
I also picked-up two frosted berry swag-stems $3.00 each. I think I'll be using the berry stems for my Christmas décor on the mantel

I will probably be using the pine cones and berries for a project.

The lighted 6ft berry garland I went over my $5 limit, my excuse is I don't think I could have bought the berries or light new for $5.
(I paid $8.00 for the berry garland.)

This fir garland I paid $5.00 it's 8feet long has different texture branches with large pinecones and berries.

I was surprised to find a bag of 12 large long pine cone for $5.00, this type of pine cone tree doesn't grow around here.

Lastly, the red metal lunch box I pick-up last Sunday, I think it will be a nice pop of red for Christmas

I hope this post gave some inspiration to go check out your local thrift store you just never know what unique items you may find.

I'm getting excited to decorate for Christmas, I love decorating with pine cone, greenery and vintage treasures as you can tell, cuz those type of items I brought home this trip. lol

Please check back after Thanksgiving weekend, Ill be decorating for December.

Until the next post.....

May God Bless You and Your Family this Holiday Season,

Friday Vintage Thrifting Day- Went Back for the Other Quail Dessert Plates

 Hi Friends,

Today I stopped by the local community thrift store and took my time looking around for the other three quail desserts plate I left behind last week ....

I was in luck, however I only found two of the quail plate $.50 each to add to my November décor.

*****

To my surprise, I found another Hen & Rooster coffee mug for $1.75

*****

One more Low-Ball Mallard Duck cocktail glass for $1.50 to added to the other four I found a few weeks ago.

*****
The best find today was ....

A super cute jewelry box replica of a 1950's waterfall veneer pattern trunk $2.50
the inside looked like cedar but not sure, supper cute. I've place the jewelry box on top of a high-boy in
the guest room.
*****
it's the hunt :)

*I spotted a couple of grab bags of jewelry*

The first bag $2.00, consisted of mostly clip-on earrings I'll be keeping them for my granddaughter, quiet a few lapel pins, and pendants for necklaces

I remember way back when an aunt wore these red flower earrings and a pin.

this necklace and clip-on earrings
were wooden.

a pair of whimsical owl earrings was a interesting find, the pair of pink shell earrings brought me back to the late 60's/70's

The $1.50,
bag of broken jewelry had necklaces missing clasps

broken bead necklaces of different kinds, two of the costume pearl necklaces were in good shape

interesting brown beads on this broken stretchy bracelet
A nice variety of material the necklaces were made from, some wooden and shell beads others had glass beads, and a few had plastic and small metal accent beads.
*****
I don't know why I' starting to pick-up jewelry, I think because you really don't know what could be in that bag ...... and look at all the very cool pieces were those two bag!

I also brought home this cute white dish stamped made in France not sure if it is ironstone or not, for $2.50.

*****
And lastly, the pewter goblet will be added to my growing pewter collection :) $3.00

*****
Had a great day thrifting today and found some fun treasures.
I would love to hear from you, and let me know, what you look for while out thrifting and I would love your ideas about how you incorporate your treasure into your home décor.

Until next time ......
