Friday Vintage Thrifting - Christmas Treasures

 Hi Friends,

I'm sharing a few Christmas items I have found in the past couple of weeks while thrifting, at my local community thrift and vintage thrift stores

I did find a couple of vintage treasures....

  • a pair of tapered green candles with a candy cane made by Avon I believe from 1980 - for $1.50
  • a pair of small winking Santa plastic mugs for $1.00 each I'll be adding to my Santa mug collection
  • a Russ Bernie Co - wooden rocking horse ornament

The Making our own Fun book was $1.00 not vintage but has great vintage looking picture and stories of  "Day's Gone By"

The Beta Sigma Phi Holiday Cookbook caught my eye with the Christmas Fruitcake recipes.
I'm sure I'll find a few more recipes that my Grandmother used for the Holidays

I have a couple of brass horns in my Christmas décor, but this horn is a little different more like a bugle for $4.00.

When out thrifting, small wreaths of any kind are on my list to pick-up and especially when the wreath have do-dads and this little wreath for $1.50 had berries, miniature wooden spools, pine cones that can be used for other projects.

I follow Becky at My Little Vintage Home, You-tube channel and she was crafting vintage styled ornaments.
When I saw the $1.00 bag of red satin thread spun ornaments, I thought I could  embellish these with beads and sequins. maybe?

I found another wreath with more pine cones and berries for $3.00
I also picked-up two frosted berry swag-stems $3.00 each. I think I'll be using the berry stems for my Christmas décor on the mantel

I will probably be using the pine cones and berries for a project.

The lighted 6ft berry garland I went over my $5 limit, my excuse is I don't think I could have bought the berries or light new for $5.
(I paid $8.00 for the berry garland.)

This fir garland I paid $5.00 it's 8feet long has different texture branches with large pinecones and berries.

I was surprised to find a bag of 12 large long pine cone for $5.00, this type of pine cone tree doesn't grow around here.

Lastly, the red metal lunch box I pick-up last Sunday, I think it will be a nice pop of red for Christmas

I hope this post gave some inspiration to go check out your local thrift store you just never know what unique items you may find.

I'm getting excited to decorate for Christmas, I love decorating with pine cone, greenery and vintage treasures as you can tell, cuz those type of items I brought home this trip. lol

Please check back after Thanksgiving weekend, Ill be decorating for December.

Until the next post.....

Moving in the 1960's Dresser-Buffet

 Hi Friends,

Today is the day! I'm so excited to be moving in the upscale dresser for the buffet base for a thrifted hutch cabinet I found this Summer

Started with this

a lot of sanding and drying time was spent because of very low temperatures.
*****

staining the whole piece with "American Walnut" and bringing it in the house to dry properly.

adding the top cabinet (refinishing it when it's a lot warmer.)
*****

New china hutch with November décor,
I've moved my Coca-Cola collection to the top of the new China hutch

Ended with this...I Love it!!

Thank you all checking in to see how this project turned out.
I would love to hear from you all, What do you think?

So until my next post....May God Bless You and Your Family,

Sunday Vintage Thrifting- Looking for Holiday Decor

 Hi Friends,

Stopped by the my local vintage/thrift store to look for any Holiday décor. I was very excited to find a few Holiday pieces at a reasonable price. Let's get to the haul!

*****
First - I have been slowly picking up cutting boards with intention of replacing the paper plate, I'm currently using for snacks or appetizers. I picked up this board for $2.00 cutting board

*****
Second - I saw this super cute cloth apple for $1.00 to put on the shelf in my computer nook, I think I might need to add another shelf lol.

*****

Then this super cute sturdy green box with a horse on the lid, for $1.50 to keep trinkets or the costume jewelry... that I have been picking up! lately :)

*****
I found a different style flashlight, as you can see I've started a new collection of vintage flashlights, this 1965 Ray-O-Vac Sportsman flashlight was $1.00, looks great with other three flashlights

*****
Like I said I was looking for Holiday décor

For $2.00 I brought home a super cute wooden carved turkey sitting on a cast iron candle holder I believe, the turkey looks like it is carved from a knot in the wood very clever.

*****

When I saw this creamer with scallop edges, I thought I had another creamer that was in this style, how ever you can see it wasn't quite the same pattern I paid $1.00 for this creamer.

*****

Look at this little toothpick holder $.50 the pink flower was chipped. I wonder if maybe this cute footed piece is a bud vase or hat pin holder instead?

*****
Got off track again... I'm still looking for Holiday décor

Then I spotted this ceramic pheasant of course on the top of a very tall shelf that no way I could reach, I asked the price of the pheasant and the clerk had to get a ladder $15.00 was the price!
*****
(I really try to keep my spending $5.00 or under)
*****
but, out of curtesy for the clerk having to climb a ladder, I paid the $15.00 for the ceramic pheasant.

Super cool looking for my November décor!

*****
Of course I was going to pick-up the pheasant feather when I spied them for $3.00 for a bundle of 3 picks.

I'll be adding the feathers to a few of the dried flower arrangements,

*****

I thought the cute red metal lunch box for $5.00, will look great in my Christmas décor, which I'll be bringing Christmas out after Thanksgiving weekend

*****

Also, I hope you notice the yellow/orange table runner $8.00, (I know I went over my $5.00 limit). But it looks great on my vintage record player

*****

My favorite find on this trip was
Vintage Beistle Honeycomb Halloween decorations the pumpkin $1.00

The cute scare crow for $.50, it did have some damage, but WOW!

Wow! What a great haul today! I'm so glad you stopped by.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I incorporated my new founds treasures into my home

I hope you enjoy seeing what I found today at my local vintage/thrift store and where I place some of the treasures in my home for the Holidays.

Vintage Buffet Repurposed Dresser - Top Coat and Cold Temperature

 Hi Friends,

Another little update on my new buffet repurpose dresser

I'm sealing the buffet project and the temperature are dropping fast.

My Darling Sweet Man put up tarps in the garage where he set up heaters to try and keep a manageable temperature for drying the top coat

60 was the highest temp we were able to keep steady in the tarp tent,
temps out side were in the low 30's in the day but teens at night

It did take a little longer but, it's drying.

Thanks for checking in at My Little Colorado cottage
I always love to hear from you.

until next post.......

Friday Vintage Thrifting Day- Went Back for the Other Quail Dessert Plates

 Hi Friends,

Today I stopped by the local community thrift store and took my time looking around for the other three quail desserts plate I left behind last week ....

I was in luck, however I only found two of the quail plate $.50 each to add to my November décor.

*****

To my surprise, I found another Hen & Rooster coffee mug for $1.75

*****

One more Low-Ball Mallard Duck cocktail glass for $1.50 to added to the other four I found a few weeks ago.

*****
The best find today was ....

A super cute jewelry box replica of a 1950's waterfall veneer pattern trunk $2.50
the inside looked like cedar but not sure, supper cute. I've place the jewelry box on top of a high-boy in
the guest room.
*****
it's the hunt :)

*I spotted a couple of grab bags of jewelry*

The first bag $2.00, consisted of mostly clip-on earrings I'll be keeping them for my granddaughter, quiet a few lapel pins, and pendants for necklaces

I remember way back when an aunt wore these red flower earrings and a pin.

this necklace and clip-on earrings
were wooden.

a pair of whimsical owl earrings was a interesting find, the pair of pink shell earrings brought me back to the late 60's/70's

The $1.50,
bag of broken jewelry had necklaces missing clasps

broken bead necklaces of different kinds, two of the costume pearl necklaces were in good shape

interesting brown beads on this broken stretchy bracelet
A nice variety of material the necklaces were made from, some wooden and shell beads others had glass beads, and a few had plastic and small metal accent beads.
*****
I don't know why I' starting to pick-up jewelry, I think because you really don't know what could be in that bag ...... and look at all the very cool pieces were those two bag!

I also brought home this cute white dish stamped made in France not sure if it is ironstone or not, for $2.50.

*****
And lastly, the pewter goblet will be added to my growing pewter collection :) $3.00

*****
Had a great day thrifting today and found some fun treasures.
I would love to hear from you, and let me know, what you look for while out thrifting and I would love your ideas about how you incorporate your treasure into your home décor.
