Rustic Farmhouse Valentine Wreath for the Front Door

Took a Dollar Tree tinsel, glittery wreath wrapped it with a roll of burlap ribbon also from Dollar Tree.

For the bows, I used 2" red burlap ribbon and 1.5" wired brown burlap ribbon from dollar tree.  I believe the 1.5" red & tan check and  7/8" black & white checked ribbon came from Craft Outlet. I cut 6" lengths of all the ribbon.

Then I layered red burlap add from my stash raffia and a couple of single strand of pip berries

wired burlap ribbon, red and tan ribbon and last the black and white ribbon
used some twine to tie up and attached to this finished bow to the wreath.

I always try and keep some light weight card stock/board that I get from cereal boxes for templates.

So I used the cereal box cardboard and cut out three hearts large medium, small for this fabric heart accent for the wreath. I used the black striped flat fold fabric that comes in this bundle from Wal-Mart, also red burlap ribbon and a aged book page.

I'm cutting out two heart from the fabric because, I'm making a little heart pillow. The first layer of the hear pillow is the black stripped fabric,

then the red burlap heart is a little smaller,

The third and last heart is cut from aged book paper.

Glue the three layer, I used Aleene's Tacky Glue and let it all dry completely.

I said I was making pillow hearts, so I added a cotton ball for batting.

With embroidery thread I used a blanket stitch around the edge to close up the heart pillow.

A finished little heart pillow.

I like how this project turned out.
Thank you for stopping by.......until the next project.

$1.50 Thrift Store Find for February - Vintage Pat and Pam Creative Charms kit

Hello Friends,
Today I'm sharing another project from a item I found at my local thrift store.

Remember my thrift haul back in February I picked up a vintage three piece Pat and Pam Creative Charm kit for a $1.50. At the time I wasn't sure how to incorporate the charms into my February decor. Then realized I could add fabric and add the charm to a string of bead.

I had a tough time getting the fabric over the little teeth

I finally got all three charms covered and the back snapped on.

Wrapping the jute twine around my fingers to forming a circle

Using another piece of twine to wrap around the end to make a hook, and cut the other end to make a fray.

Using red bead I thrift in February haul, I cut the twine the length I thought would need feed it threw the charm clasp and added the red beads about twenty and added tassel

I embellish the top of the charm with a small fabric heart and a button

This project turned out pretty nice.Thank you for stopping by to see what I have been up to.  So until the next project......

May God Bless you, Vicki

Frosty January Day at My Little Colorado Cottage

Planning for a Great! 2018

I woke up to a very frosty day, a great day to enjoyed the blue skies and look towards a great year.

As most year I just want to celebrate all the little things that go on in my home and be grateful for the special times.

I so much would like to incorporate more of my thrifted treasure into my home.  I have started making a list of some of the projects I would like to accomplish for February.  I do have a few thrifted items that need some loving care.  So I'm glad I have taken the time to think through a the process, I hope you will check back from time to time to see some of these projects come to life.

Thank you for stopping by to see what I have been up to

God Bless You and your family.

Weekend renovation

It’s starting to cool off now at nights if you consider 26 – 32 degrees cooling off and the rainy days are hit and miss.
I live in a 1930’s Mount Harris house that was auctioned off and moved when the mine shut down front door was probably a original Mt Harris door (that’s another story). Mt Harris, Colorado
Before I bought this house the back door had be broken into, which caused a warp to the top of the door 3 1/2” out from the door jam.
With the weather changing the door really needed to be replaced, so this weekend I got a new front and back outside door

Halloween project

I was surfing my favorite blogs last week and found a couple of really cool wreath I thought I’d tried to make before Halloween.
As you know I’m a little frugal. I look through my craft stuff and wasn’t able to find a wreath I could reuse.
DSCI2325
So I went to the Budget Center (our Good Will) and purchased two different grapevine wreaths for $5
DSCI2328
I had some gogglely eyes and 2” styro-foam balls in my Halloween craft box and cut them in half and glued to the wreath painted the styro-foam ball base with Americana glow in the dark acrylic paint and around the eyes with Delta lime sorbet acrylic paint.
DSCI2341
I found some white and glow in the dark green webbing and some spider rings, also from my Halloween craft box and a beany bag spider to tie in the middle .
I surprised my self I think it turned out great!
Have a Great Day!

DD#2 goes back to school on Monday. This is my last week of winter break and my project list hasn't one thing checked off yet.

1. Actually give the whole house a good vacuuming (didn't get to it over the past couple of weeks)
2. Move a anchor hanger in the kitchen
3. Get my paper work out of my bedroom and setup my desk in the spare room
4. Hang some pictures that have been in boxes since I've moved into the house back in February 2009
5. Put up a shelve and some pictures in living room
6. Cleanup the laundry room (a working in progress)
7. Clean out the refrigerator and clean the stove/oven (I don't like this job, not sure I'll get to this one)

I hope to check off at least #1,#3,#6, and #7 wish me luck!
Have a great Day!
