Vintage Inspired Handmade Snowmen

Hi Friends,

I am so happy you have stopped by "My Little Colorado Cottage"  today.

For the past couple of weeks I've been working with paper clay, I have wanted to handmake vintage inspired 'Snowmen' to add to my Winter décor this season.
***
This weekend I finished up the project
***
For now I have all of the cute snowmen on top of the hutch as I refresh some of my vignettes for the month of February, these little guys will be moving around.

*****
I found a very easy recipe for the paper clay,  at Tree Craft Studios here

I followed the recipe, but added just a little more shredded paper, this recipe makes a large batch of clay
(kind of looks like oatmeal)
*****

I started by using up some playdough I had in the craft stash for the Grandkids.

My thought was to put the paper clay over the snowmen form.

*****

as it turned out the playdough cracked so bad that the paper clay worked out well covering the cracks.

*****

I also used toilet paper rolls for a taller snowmen and used aluminum foil to form arms.

*****

It took some time to dry thoroughly, I did use aluminum foil shaped in a ball for the snowmen made from the paper roll

I had added the orange carrot nose and pipe before I added the felt scarves.

After all was done, I preferred the fabric scarves and fabric embellishment on the stove top hat instead of the felt.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to stop by to see what I have been up to.

What do you think of this project, for the first time using with paper clay?

 So until my next post......

May God Bless You and Your Family,

  1. I printed off the paper clay recipe--in case I ever get ambitious! I am hoping "corn flour" is the same as corn starch!!! Your snowmen are adorable. They make a great "family." I have made snowmen from baby socks, styrofoam balls, fleece, and pom poms but haven't tried paper clay yet! As I am not a winter lover, I have made dollhouse sized "Frosties" in the process of melting with a puddle of clear glass stain, peppercorns or black flat back buttons, a felt scarf, air dry clay carrot nose, and small black plastic hat. Al just cleared a foot of yesterday's snow off the cars so we could get plowed out! Looks like a Maine winter NOW!

  2. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments.
Actually I though that corn flour was the same as corn starch also, but I used all purpose flour, because I didn't have the corn starch on hand and my clay turned out fine. Your doll size Frosties sounds like a fun project, did you use air dry clay? I'm not much of a winter person either other than help with shoveling snow every other day. lol
